The Fortnightly One #1

15 March 2014

I thought that a fortnightly round-up and overview of everything I've been loving the past fourteen days would be a nice feature, so let's get this show on the road with numero uno.

Meg says:

"Apply" - The Products
Every night I've been massaging in a good layer of Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight mask and you know what? My thirsty and dehydrated skin has been drinking it up - it's official, it does what it says on the tube, folks. // Make up wise the new L'Oréal Colour Riche Extraordinare lip colours haven't left my lips, I've never been a huge lipgloss fan but these feel so balmy, smell pretty darn edible and the shade range is super pretty.

"Watch" - The Films, Series & YouTube
I recently watched Remember Sunday and found myself in tears, probably because a scene involved someone sitting in front of their doctor and saying, "please, fix me" - yep, been there. It was sort of like a less hilarious 50 First Dates, but Alexis Bledel and Zachary Levi are a pair made in cute couple heaven (how could Rory from Gilmore Girls and Flynn Rider from Tangled not be), plus the whole 'I love you despite your medical issues' thing hits home with me. // I've started watching the US version of The Office and think I like it. The similarities to the UK one that I know and love makes it feel a bit like déjà vu, but I've heard that it comes into its own after the first couple of series so I'm willing to stick with it. // As for YouTube, it's been all about the Shaytards. As the end of their five year run of daily vlogging neared, my emotions rose and I wept my little eyes out at every video. They've given me so much laughter and hope over the years, especially throughout becoming bedbound, and they'll always be "vloggin' here" to me.

"Eat" - The Food
It's been a funny old fortnight for me as insomnia and nausea have teamed up to make me lose my appetite and my healthy eating Instagram has been pretty lacking in the food department as a result. I did however manage to get a few tasty meals it - check out Meg Says Eat to see them in action.

"Read" - The Books, Blogs & Magazines
I'm on the last few chapters of The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, and it makes my heart weep so much that I've actually been putting off finishing it. I think it's because it makes me think of someone in particular, and the imagery of Susie's heaven is so beautifully poignant and touching that it comforts me yet I almost can't bear to read it at the same time. // I've been poring over Buy Now, Blog Later written by the wonderful Laura who I've loved and followed religiously since her lollipop26 days - she's been shopping her stash, wearing pastels, applying the new Hourglass blushes and re-vamping her blog. As for me? I've been taking notes in between swoons.

"Wear" - The Style, Sleepwear & Loungewear
My Cath Kidston Camberwell Rose pjs and that's it. Actually, tell a lie, I did don an all black ensemble for an appointment with my occupational therapist and I have to say, my Topshop treggings (these are similar) are second to none at making your legs look like they go on for days. Winning! Another pair of leg slimmers from Topshop that I wore to the dentist - my social calendar is so enviable, I know - are the MOTO Vintage Joni jeans.

"Listen" - The Music
A tad uncool but I'm not embarrassed to admit that the cold never bothered me anyway, it's the Frozen soundtrack - all day, err day. Forget Queen B's Run the World, is there a more empowering song than Let It Go? I spin around my kitchen singing Love Is An Open Door, snapchat my friends my rendition of Fixer Upper and go to town on the First Time in Forever reprise. I'm addicted. Let the storm rage on, I say.

"Inspire" - The Quotes
Michael Jordan said, "I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But what I can't accept is not trying", and that struck a chord with me recently as I finally started Meg Says after wanting to for a very long time. There's always a worry that you'll fail with any risk you take or new opportunity that you throw yourself into, so I'm taking a leaf out of Sam's dad's book and telling myself to go for it even if it scares me, e.g. "don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game" - name that film! If it doesn't work out, at least I'll know that I tried and gave it my best His Airness-esque shot.
