October Favourites

6 November 2015

We all seem to say it a lot but seriously, can the calendar just slow down a little, please? This time of year is my favourite - the cosy autumnal evenings have arrived, the leaves have fallen and Christmas is right around the corner! I enjoy October a lot and aside from turning a year older and wearing ALL of the knitwear, I also discovered quite a few lovely products - here are my top picks from the past month.

I seem to have had quite the moment with palettes in October as not one, not two, but three made it into my favourites! The Collection Eyes Uncovered Palette* in 'Nude Bronze' answers all of my drugstore eyeshadow dreams. With a good mix of warm and cool shades that are buttery soft, finely milled and without a speck of chunky glitter in sight I can't recommend it any more highly, especially for £3.99. The quality is on par with another heavily-used palette, the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2*, which is now a firm staple in my makeup bag and gives the eyes a whole lotta definition. You've got a subtle highlight in the shade 'Skimp', 'Undone' is gorgeous when used as a soft liner and the combination of 'Frisk' and 'Primal' are great brow colours. I used both palettes in a recent autumnal makeup tutorial - here - and never want to be without either!

Another goodie from UD is their Naked Flushed* bronzer, highlight and blush palette, which is fabulous for throwing in your handbag with a multitasking brush and resting safe in the knowledge that all your bases are covered. Whilst the bronzer and highlight are perfectly good, the blush is the real star for me - a warm rose that lifts the complexion and gives you that 'just been for a brisk walk along the seafront' glow.

A new skincare love of mine that comes rather close to my beloved Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm at half the price is the Trilogy Makeup Be Gone Cleansing Balm*. Not only does this have the most incredible scent of mango, coconut and rosehip but it performs beautifully, transforming into an oily balm on the skin that feels beyond luxurious and makes my skin feel the softest it has ever felt. With the ability to remove makeup in seconds it's a true winner in my eyes, although those with combination skin may want to use it as a first cleanse or follow up with a micellar water as it's rather rich. As for my body, I haven't been able to get enough of the Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub and just adore the warm, comforting scent - it's like maple syrup, so yummy! The golden sugar base exfoliates whilst shea, banana, almond and honey soothe, meaning it's as kind to skin as it is effective.

I've discovered a real gem this month and it's absolutely one of the nicest nail polishes I've ever had the pleasure of coming across - say hello to Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Nail Polish in 'All In'. An interesting hybrid of emerald green, shimmering blue, deep teal and with a hint of purple when it catches the light, it's simply stunning! I'd really recommend picking this up as it's such a unique colour that's completed by the Gel Envy formula - especially if you're still clinging onto Halloween!
